Ankle Instability Problems?

We count on our feet and ankles to support us and get us where we need to go. Problems with either can cause severe pain. Ankle instability can lead to falls and other problems. It may even leave you with a broken ankle. At District Foot & Ankle, we work with patients with this type of problem all the time. You can have confidence in your gait once again with our help.

Lateral Ankle Instability

Lateral ankle instability happens due to a recurring giving away of the lateral side of your ankle joint. Repeated ankle sprains are often what causes the problem. If you have this condition, you may experience:

  • Repeated turning of the ankle
  • Persistent discomfort
  • Swelling
  • Pain and tenderness
  • Wobbly feeling in the ankle
  • Feeling unstable

There are treatments that can help take care of the condition. Non-surgical treatments include shoe modification, anti-inflammatories, orthotics, bracing, or activity modification.

Chronic Ankle Instability Surgery

In cases that do not respond well to the above treatments, you can opt for surgical management. In chronic ankle instability surgery, the surgeon reconstructs the lateral ankle ligaments.
